From 1225 a Royal Town of Wenceslav II, and later of Queen Elitka.
The historic core contains the square with its Gothic houses, restored in the renaissance, the town hall, the Parish Church of the Holy Spirit, the White Tower, St Clement´s Chapel, the Baroque "U Špuláků" ("At the Sign of the Bobbin"), the former Jesuit college and Church of Our Lady, the bishops´ residence, the town walls and other monuments.
